After a successful start to the season and the fact that the 2nd event of the season was being held in our own training playground, Surfers Paradise Outriggers wanted aimed to get as many crews on the water as they could.
Race 1 – 8km Short Course Women & Mixed event, saw 3 crews on the water – Golden Masters Mixed and 2 Open Mixed crews.
The course was set and off the crews went. Some of our crews didn’t have the start they wanted but they were able to recover and focus on the job at hand to get back into pole position, with both crews coming in 1st and 2nd in the Open Mixed category.
1st Place in a time of 39.12.0 placing 2nd overall out of 26 crews were the Open Mixed Crew 2 – Alby, Tamati, Sef, Sharn, Les and Mel, who completed her first race as a steerer. Congratulations Mel…..You guys lost ground at the start with all the collisions however were able to get back in the game…..Great job!!!! They placed 2nd overall out of 26 crews.
2nd Place in a time of 39.57.0, placing 5th overall out of 26 crews were the Open Mixed Crew 1 – Greg, Jo, Pam, Gert, Sunny and Lucky.
Our Golden Masters crew backed up their win in Tweed with another win in their category in a time of 42.47.6. Congratulations again to Di Shaw, Joy, Peter, Bob, John & Di Kearney. They placed 16th overall out of 26 crews.
Race 5 – 16km Long Course Men & Mixed event saw our Masters Mixed once again take on the challenge. Conditions picked up and it was touch and go at times, with crews patiently waiting on the race officials to provide the final call if crews were going outside or not. Even with the conditions at hand, our Masters Mixed crew did a great job, taking out 1st place in their category again in a time of 1.39.09.6, placing 15th overall out of 31 crews and being the 2nd mixed team overall across the line. Congratulations to Woggy, Lyn, Baz, Michael, Mel & Daryl who did a fantastic job in keeping the crew upright and safe.
Thank you to those members that came down and assisted with getting boats ready and around to generally support crews, regardless if they were racing or not and particularly those that stayed right up until the end to support our Masters Mixed crew. These types of people are true club members…..
Great effort by all crews!!!! Well done…..
