Race 5 of the OC6 season took us to Bells Beach in Redcliffe.
We had 4 teams compete in this event.
3 teams in the 8km Short Course – Open Men, Open Mixed & Golden Masters Mixed and 1 team in the 16km Long Course – Masters Mixed.
Race 2 saw our Open Men, Open Mixed and Golden Masters Mixed head out into reasonably suitable racing conditions. All crews raced extremely well to place in each category. Our Open Men crew (made up of 1 Open, 4 Masters & 1 Senior Master) placed 2nd in their division with a time of 42.25.8 (3rd overall out of 29), Open Mixed (made up of 1 Open, 3 Senior Masters & 2 Golden Masters) were 1st in their category with a time of 47.57.8 (9th out of 29) and Golden Masters Mixed were placed 1st in their division with a time of 52.02.9 (24th out of 29). Another job well done to all crews.
Race 6 was our Masters Mixed’s opportunity to continue their phenomenal record, making it 4 from 4. This time, conditions were not so kind. With the winds picking up, it made it difficult at times to get any clean water however our Masters Mixed crew pushed through and took out line honours out of 26 crews and of course, placing 1st in their respective category with a time of 56.18.9. Due to the racing conditions, the event organisers stopped the race after the first lap which was approx 9.5km.
Thank you to Peter once again who towed canoes and stuck around and supported his fellow team mates before the long haul home.
